Guide to select the right rug size for your room.
Bed Room Rug Size
Let’s make ourselves comfortable and design a 12 x 15 feet master bed room. Oh, while we were at it this, let’s choose a queen size bed (usually 60 x 80 inches). What size rug will this bed room accommodate?
The room will certainly take a 9x 12 feet carpet, and may be even 10 x 14 feet, but wait a minute, do we really want to do this? No matter how we arrange the bed, we will cover a good part of the rug, meaning that we won’t really get to enjoy the full beauty and utility of the rug. There is also the problem of the inevitable dust that will come to live under the bed. It’s much easier to clean a bare floor! Instead of a big carpet in the bed room, one can use several scatter rugs to fill areas around bed as needed. For example, a 4 x 6 feet rug at the foot of the bed and two 2.5 x 10 feet runner, one on each side of the bed, or a 2.5 x 10 feet runner and a 3 x 5 feet rug on either side of the bed means that you can still roll out in the morning onto a soft warm lovely oriental rug. Plus you have paid for a smaller size rug (or combination of rugs) instead of a room size rug. One disadvantage to this scheme is, when you are walking from one side to the other side of the room, you are going on and off of the rugs.
